Rhinoplasty Types According to the Patiens’ Goals:

  • Augmentation Rhinoplasty: it is a type of cosmetic nose surgery during which, bone or tissue grafts are used for the nasal tip or bridge. In some cases, cartilage from other parts of the nose may be used (most often nasal septum) and if a patient does not have enough tissue in this area, synthetic material, biological tissues, or cartilages of other parts can be used instead.
  • Reduction Rhinoplasty: it is the most commonly used type of rhinoplasty that changes the size and shape of the nose. This type of surgery is very effective in correcting the nose bridge, long nasal tip, and extremely irregular nostrils. During this process, some bone and cartilage should be removed and to reduce the size of large nostrils alar technique might be used in which small pieces of tissue are removed from where the nostrils reach the cheeks.
  • Reconstructive Rhinoplasty: when a patient loses all or part of his/her nose as a result of a serious illness, skin cancer, or an accident he/she might require this type of rhinoplasty. In this procedure, the surgeon reconstructs the nose using skin grafts and flap techniques or other advanced methods.
  • Rhinoplasty After Injury: this type of rhinoplasty is performed when a patient has a nose injury. It is used to straighten and repair nasal septum and can affect both the function and appearance of the nose.
  • Rhinoplasty in the Elderly: in spite of the fact that the nose stops growing at around 16, its shape may change over time, for instance, nasal passages may be tightened and cause breathing problems, nasal tip may turn downwards. Therefore, the surgeon performs this type of surgery to improve these problems and make the patient look younger too.
  • Teenage Rhinoplasty: it is recommended that teenagers wait until their nose growth has stopped; however, there some exceptions when nasal trauma occurs to their nose that may result in a decreased ability to breathe normally or physical deformity.
